UEFA: four clubs suspended for their next European campaign due to unpaid debts

The CFCB (Club Financial Control Forum Body) of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) has suspended the clubs FK Ekranas clubs (LTU), CFR 1907 Cluj (ROM), FC Astra Giurgiu (ROM) and Bursaspor (TUR) for the next European competition in which they would be able to qualify due to unpaid debts, UEFA announced on 22/12/2014.

"Once the corporate tax issue is solved with the state, there will be no problems in ensuring the financial stability of the club. We are in constant contact with UEFA to provide all documents necessary to solve problems encountered, and we are sure the club will be able to participate in European cups," said Ioan Niculae, president of FC Astra Giurgiu, on 23/12/2014.

Details of the UEFA sanctions against four clubs

  • FK Ekranas (LTU)
    • suspended for the next European competition in which the club would qualify over a two year period.
    • fine of €15,000.
  • CFR 1907 Cluj (ROM)
    • suspended for the next European competition in which the club would qualify over a period of three years, unless the club can repay its debts before 31/01/2015.
    • fine of €150,000.
