Virtual Bundesliga: a record 35 Bundesliga & 2.Bundesliga representatives in 2023-24

A record 35 Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga clubs are taking part in the 2023-24 Virtual Bundesliga, which is played on the EA SPORTS FC 24 video game (EA Sports, formerly FIFA), announced the DFL on 13/11/2023. They are divided into two divisions: North-West (18 teams) and South-East (17 teams). 29 teams were represented in 2022-23.

The clubs joining the competition are Borussia Dortmund, FC Bayern Munich, SC Freiburg (Bundesliga), Fortuna Düsseldorf, 1. FC Magdeburg (2. Bundesliga) and recently promoted second division sides SV Elversberg, VfL Osnabrück and SV Wehen Wiesbaden.

For the first time since the creation of the competition in 2012, the esports teams of professional clubs will play Matchday 1 of the VBL Club Championship, the phase of the tournament dedicated to them, in person rather than online. This first matchday will take place at the Strassenkicker Base in Cologne on 18 and 19/11/2023.

A total of 34 regular-season matches will be played in the 2023-24 Club Championship season, leading up to the final on 23 and 24/03/2024. The prize money for the 2023-24 VBL Club…
