Manchester United FC: Richard Arnold leaves the club, Patrick Stewart appointed interim CEO

Richard Arnold, CEO of Manchester United FC (Premier League) since 01/02/2022, has decided to step down after 16 years with the club, according to a statement on 15/11/2023. His departure comes amid reports in the English media of the imminent sale of a 25% stake in Manchester United to Jim Ratcliffe (INEOS) for £1.5bn (€1.7bn) and the acquisition of a minority stake by American billionaire Leon Cooperman (see below).

Richard Arnold joined the club as commercial director in 2007, before becoming managing director of the group in 2013. He was also chairman of the club's Foundation board.

"Patrick Stewart will take over as interim CEO, in addition to his existing role as general counsel, with Richard continuing to provide transitional support until the end of December. A search process will be carried out for a new permanent CEO," said the club.
