Everton FC: 10-point deduction for breaching Premier League financial regulations

Everton FC has been sanctioned with a withdrawal of 10 points from the 2023-24 Premier League standings with immediate effect for breaching the League's rules on profitability and sustainability, announced the body on 17/11/2023.

The penalty was imposed by an independent commission, which interviewed the Merseyside club between 16 and 20/10/2023. The Premier League had announced on 24/03/2023 that Everton had breached Article E.49 of its regulations, which limits clubs' financial losses over a period of three financial years to £105m (€119.3m), at the end of the 2021-22 season. Everton's accumulated losses over the period amount to £124.5m (€144.3m), according to the commission.

"The club believes that the commission has imposed a wholly disproportionate and unjust sporting sanction. The club has already communicated its intention to appeal the decision to the Premier League," said Everton, who are "both shocked and disappointed by the ruling."
