Paris 2024: Olympic Truce resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in New York

118 votes in favour, 2 abstentions (Russia and Syria) and 0 votes against: the resolution on the Olympic Truce for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games was adopted by the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York (United States) on 21/11/2023.

This resolution calls for the Olympic Truce to be observed from seven days before the start of the Games in July 2024 until seven days after the close of the Paralympic Games in September 2024. The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris are scheduled from 26/07 to 11/08/2024 and will be followed by the Paralympic Games from 28/08 to 08/09/2024, meaning an Olympic Truce from 19/07 to 18/09/2024.

Thomas Bach (GER), president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and Tony Estanguet, president of Paris 2024, welcomed the adoption of the resolution. The Frenchman officially presented the resolution to the General Assembly on behalf of the French government (speech available to download). Thomas Bach called for its adoption.
