FIFA: calls for tenders for broadcasting rights to the 2026 & 2027 World Cups in sub-Saharan Africa

FIFA has launched two separate calls for tenders for the broadcasting rights in sub-Saharan Africa to the 2026 World Cup (first edition with 48 teams, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada) and the Women's World Cup 2027 (to be awarded on 17/05/2024), announced the governing body on 23/11/2023.

"Entities wishing to participate in either or both of the tender processes can request the invitations to tender by emailing SubSaharaMediaRights@fifa.org. The bid submission deadline in each case is 11:00 CET on Wednesday, 13/12/2023," said FIFA.

The pay-TV broadcasting rights for the 2022 World Cup and the Women's World Cup 2023 in sub-Saharan Africa were held by the English-language pay-TV group Supersport International and the Togolese pay and free-TV group New World TV (French-language). New World TV had sublicensed the free-to-air rights to 28 matches of the 2022 World Cup to local channels, while the South African broadcasting group SABC held the free-to-air TV rights to the competition in South Africa.
