Social Football Summit 2023: "The 2026 World Cup will be 104 Super Bowls" (Romy Gai, FIFA)

"The 2026 World Cup will be the first edition with 48 teams, in three different countries. I was recently talking to an executive of the Dallas Cowboys (NFL) about the Super Bowl. I explained to him that the 2026 World Cup will be 104 Super Bowls," said Romy Gai, chief business officer at FIFA, at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome (ITA) on 22/11/2023.

The Italian, who has been in post since April 2022, was on the main stage at the 6^th edition of the Social Football Summit (SFS), a leading international event for the football industry, held on 21 and 22/11/2023.

"The 2023-2026 budget approved at the FIFA Congress on 16/03/2023 in Kigali amounts to $11bn, including $2.7bn in marketing rights. But we often forget that FIFA is a non-profit organisation. We have ambitions in terms of turnover, but our objective is not to generate profits. Otherwise, we would be taking risks. But we don't do that because there are 211 associations behind us. We can't afford to do that. It's important never to forget where the money goes: to organise events, to build up reserves, to help the federations," said…
