England/The FA: a £30m fund for the construction of women's football pitches & facilities

The UK government and The Football Association have launched a £30m (€34.6m) fund to build football pitches dedicated to women's football, announced The FA on 29/11/2023. £25m will come from the government and £5m from The Football Association.

The fund, which will be used to build "approximately 30 new state-of-the-art 3G pitches and accompanying facilities, prioritise women's and girls' teams across England" and "will be delivered by the Government, the Premier League, and the Football Foundation (set up by the Premier League in 2000)," explained The FA.

To promote women's football, the following measures will be implemented on these pitches:
• "Reserved peak-time slots;
• Women and girls only evenings;
• Priority booking for women's and girls' teams;
• Dedicated female changing rooms, shower facilities and accessible toilets."

Launched just over a year after England won the Women's Euro on home soil in 2022, the initiative is part of the government's new sports strategy. The aim of the strategy is to "get 2.5 million more adults and one million more children active by 2030."
