Rugby Football Union: a turnover of £221.4m (€256.6m) in 2022-23 (+17%)

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) posted a turnover of £221.4m (€256.6m on 30/06/2023) for the 2022-23 financial year (from 01/07/2022 to 30/06/2023), an increase of 17% (+£67.5m) compared with 2021-22 (£189.1m/€219.1m on 30/06/2022), announced the English federation on 02/12/2023.

This increase can be explained in particular by the rise in revenue from ticket sales (£48.3m/€56m, +43.3%) and hospitality (£70.8m/€82m, +15.1%), with the England men's team playing seven matches at London's Twickenham Stadium (82,000 capacity) in 2022-23, compared with five in 2021-22. A record attendance of 58,498 was recorded for the England - France Women's Six Nations match (38-33) at Twickenham Stadium on 29/04/2023, "bringing in c.£1m of revenue. The ticket yield on women's internationals is currently much lower than the men's game but is a key area of focus for growing future revenues," said the body.

While sponsorship revenue was also up (£29.9m/€34.6m, +7.5%), it remained below the pre-pandemic level (£33.3m in 2019-20 or €36.4m on 30/06/2020). Media rights revenue, on the other hand, fell by 6.2…
