Women's football: 59% of fans interested but only 13% are "huge fans" (ECA study)

• 59% of football fans are interested in women's football;
• This interest rises to 76% among American and Chinese fans
• 44% of French people interested in football think that free content would encourage them to follow women's football more
• The audience for women's football is younger than that for men's football
• Only 13% of fans say they are very keen on women's football, compared to 34% for men's football
• 61% of football fans in the United States attach as much importance to their favourite women's club as to the men's club they support

These are the main lessons from the “Growing the Women's Game” study carried out by the European Club Association, in collaboration with the independent firm MTM Sport, published on 05/12/2023.

The aim of the study is to provide a "comprehensive analysis of the current landscape and outlook for women's football around the world." It focuses on five aspects: global interest and engagement, drivers of this interest, business opportunities, opportunities for clubs and how to address challenges.
