UEFA / women's club competitions reform: the ECA welcomes a "landmark and a vital development"

“The new format of the UEFA Women’s Champions League and the introduction of a second women’s European club competition are a landmark and a vital development tool for the women’s game,” said the European Club Association on 08/12/2023, following a meeting of its board in Copenhagen (DEN) on 07/12/2023. "This will provide even more clubs with access to the European stage," added the ECA.

• Change of format for the Women's Champions League from the 2025-26 season, with a switch to a mini-championship featuring 18 teams, compared with 16 clubs divided into four groups of four at present, i.e. two additional participants.
• The creation of a second European women's club competition in the same season, with a knockout format, to be contested by teams eliminated in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League and representatives from member associations positioned between 8^th and 24^th in the UEFA women's coefficient rankings.
