Premier League: Atairos becomes a minority partner in V Sports, owner of Aston Villa FC

The American fund Atairos is to become a minority shareholder in V Sports, the Luxembourg investment fund that owns Aston Villa FC (Premier League), announced the two parties on 15/12/2023. The agreement "is subject to Premier League approval".

"V Sports will continue to own 100% of AVFC post-closing of the transaction and will continue to have full control of all decisions at AVFC. Atairos' capital investment will primarily be used to fund growth and infrastructure investments, with the aim of creating material and sustainable value for AVFC and the broader V Sports network over time," explained the fund created by American businessmen Wes Edens and Egyptian-Belgian Nassef Sawiris.

"Atairos was launched in 2016 and has $6.5bn (€5.9bn) of equity capital," added V Sports.

V Sports also has a 46% minority stake in Vitória Sport Clube (Liga Portugal Betclic) and has established a network of clubs through a number of partnerships, including Real Unión Club (Spanish 3^rd division), ZED FC (Egyptian 1^st division) and Vissel Kobe (J.League).
