La Vuelta 2024: 79^th edition to begin in Lisbon (POR) on 17/08 and end in Madrid (ESP) on 08/09

Lisbon (Portugal) will host the start of the 79^th edition of the Vuelta a España cycling race on Saturday 17/08/2024, announced the organising company Unipublic, which belongs to Amaury Sport Organisation, on 19/12/2023.

This is the second time (after 1997) that the cycling event will start from the Portuguese city, and the fifth time in its history that it will start from abroad (Assen/NED in 2009, Nîmes/FRA in 2017 and Utrecht/NED in 2022). The second and third stages will also start in Portugal, before the peloton heads to Spain. La Vuelta, which will arrive in Madrid on 08/09/2024, will consist of 21 stages and cover a total distance of 3,265km.

In 2023, the event, which began in Barcelona and ended in Madrid, was broadcast to 190 countries via 24 broadcasters, including La1 in Spain, part of the public broadcasting group Radio Televisión Española (RTVE). On 10/02/2021, the public broadcaster extended its rights until 2024 for an annual fee of between €3-4m.
