Media: discussions regarding a possible Warner Bros. Discovery & Paramount Global merger (press)

The American conglomerates Warner Bros. Discovery (owner of the Eurosport pay-TV group and the Max platform) and Paramount Global (owner of the CBS audio-visual group and the Paramount+ platform) are reportedly in talks about a possible merger of the two entities, according to several US media reports on 20/12/2023.

David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, and Bob Bakish, CEO of Paramount Global, reportedly met to discuss a merger of the two groups on Tuesday 19/12/2023. According to press reports, a merger of the Max and Paramount+ platforms has been suggested as a way of competing with streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+.

Paramount Global holds the English-language broadcasting rights in the United States for the men's European Club Cups (Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League) until 2030, the Serie A TIM (2021-2024) and the NFL (2023-2023). Warner Bros. Discovery owns the media rights to the NBA in the same territory until 2025 (rights also held by The Walt Disney Company, parent company of the ESPN group).
