CJEU ruling: clubs, leagues, players & supporters unite around UEFA against the Super League

"The ECJ has certainly not given green light nor approved project like the so-called Super League. We welcome the clarity that the ECJ has delivered today including an endorsement of pre-authorisation system and UEFA’s dual role as organising and authorising body," said Aleksander Ceferin (SVN), president of UEFA, during a press conference organised online by the European Confederation on 21/12/2023, a few hours after the publication of the judgment rendered by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), which had received a preliminary ruling from the Juzgado de lo Mercantil (Commercial Court of Madrid) in the part of a procedure initiated in Spain by the European Super League Company (ESLC), created to develop the project of a European Super League.
