Sevilla FC: José María del Nido Carrasco succeeds José Castro Carmona as the club's president

"The Sevilla FC (LALIGA EA Sports) board of directors, which met this morning, has approved the appointment of José María del Nido Carrasco as the new club president, who has taken up the post as of today," announced the Spanish club on 31/12/2023.

José María del Nido Carrasco succeeds José Castro Carmona, president of Sevilla FC since 2013, during whose tenure the club won the UEFA Europa League on five occasions. Carmona retains a place on the board as vice-president.

This change at the head of the Andalusian club is part of a pact agreed by the main shareholders in 2019, but also against a backdrop of conflict between them and the other shareholders, which led to the rejection of the 2022-23 annual accounts (by 53.3%) and the board of directors' management report (by 57%) at the general meeting on 04/12/2023. The rebellion is led by former president José María del Nido Benavente (from 2002 to 2013), father of José María del Nido Carrasco, who resigned after being sentenced to seven years in prison in a corruption case, and who would now like to regain the presidency of the club.
