Borussia Dortmund: H-J. Watzke to step down as CEO at the end of his mandate in autumn 2025

Hans-Joachim Watzke will not extend his mandate as CEO of Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga) and will relinquish his seat on the BVB board in autumn 2025, according to the German club on 08/01/2024.

"Watzke had previously informed the executive committee of the advisory board of Borussia Dortmund, chaired by Reinhold Lunow, of his decision and also asked the committee to be relieved of overall responsibility for sporting matters by 30/06/2024 at the latest in order to prepare for the smoothest possible transition," explained BVB.

"Next year, I will have been in office for 20 years. My feeling has increased that the point has come where I say: enough is enough. I wanted to publicise this early on in order to moderate the transition over the next year and a half. This is the right amount of time to draw all the necessary conclusions. It was important to me that I could announce my departure from this position in a self-determined manner.
