USA: 24 cities express interest in hosting Centennial Cup America matches in 2016

24 American cities have expressed interest in hosting Centennial Cup America (Copa America Centenario in Spanish) matches in 2016, CONCACAF (North American Football Confederation) announced on 08/01/2014. The Centennial Cup America is a special edition of the Copa América to celebrate 100 years of CONMEBOL (South American Football Confederation). The tournament will be held in the United States and involve CONCACAF and CONMEBOL national teams.

The 24 cities interested are Phoenix (Arizona), Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco (California), Denver (Colorado), Washington, D.C., Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa (Florida), Atlanta (Georgia), Chicago (Illinois), Indianapolis (Indiana), Baltimore (Maryland), Boston (Massachusetts), Detroit (Michigan), Kansas City, St. Louis (Missouri), the Greater New York area (New Jersey and New York), Cleveland (Ohio), Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), Nashville (Tennessee), Dallas, Houston (Texas) and Seattle (Washington).

  • Of the 24 bidding cities, only between eight and 13 will be awarded hosting rights, stated CONCACAF.
