TotalEnergies AFCON 2023: Morocco leads on social media with 7.9 million followers

With a combined total of 7.9 million followers on its various accounts (Facebook, Instagram, X and TikTok), Morocco (FRMF) is the country with the most fans on social media among the 24 teams taking part in the TotalEnergies AFCON 2023 (held in the Ivory Coast from 13/01 to 11/02/2024), according to News Tank Football's figures on 10/01/2024.

The Moroccan men's team, African champions in 1976 and semi-finalists at the last World Cup in Qatar, are in first place on Instagram but are outranked by Algeria (FAF) and Egypt (EFA) on X and Facebook.

Algeria is in second place (6.8 million) in terms of the total number of followers across the four platforms, ahead of Egypt (4.8 million). They are followed by Tanzania (4^th, 3.9 million) and Nigeria (5^th, 3.7 million). These national teams are among the 10 that have more than one million followers.

The tournament hosts Ivory Coast (FIF) are 10^th on Facebook (424,000 followers) and 11^th on X (105,979 followers) but have no account on TikTok, a social network on which only five teams are present.
