Premier League: Everton & Nottingham Forest accused of breaching financial regulations

Everton FC and Nottingham Forest FC have each confirmed that they have breached the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) by posting losses in excess of permitted thresholds for the assessment period ending at the end of the 2022-23 season, according to the English professional league on 15/01/2024.

In the case in point, the losses authorised by the Premier League's financial regulations are capped at £105m (€122m) over a period that includes the 2022-23, 2021-22, 2020-21 and 2019-20 seasons (for these last two seasons, which were particularly disrupted by Covid-19, average EBIT is taken into account, with the possibility of deducting a certain number of investments in infrastructure, women's football or youth training in particular). However, a deduction of £22m (€26m) is applied for each season spent in the Sky Bet Championship by the club concerned, with a limit ultimately set at £61m (€71m) for Nottingham Forest FC, promoted to the Premier League at the end of the 2021-22 season.
