China/Tennis: CCTV extends its free-to-air broadcasting rights to the Australian Open until 2026

China Media Group (CMG), China's leading state-owned media group and parent company of China's state broadcaster CCTV, has extended its free-to-air broadcasting rights to the Australian Open Grand Slam until 2026, announced Tennis Australia on 16/01/2024. CCTV has held these rights for "over 20 years."

"A long-term broadcast partner of the AO, the extension incorporates new opportunities for CMG's digital platforms, including the streaming of selected daily matches, in addition to its television coverage," said Tennis Australia, which is in charge of organising the tournament.

The tournament's media rights are also held in China by the pay and free-TV groups Shanghai TV and Guangdong TV, and by the Chinese streaming platform iQiyi Sports.
