FC Girondins de Bordeaux: Gérard Lopez "denies any intention of selling the club in its entirety"

"Contrary to what has been published by the Sud Ouest newspaper, Gérard Lopez formally denies having any intention of selling the club in its entirety," declared FC Girondins de Bordeaux (Ligue 2 BKT) on 21/01/2024. The French regional daily reported on the same day that the owner and president of Girondins (since summer 2021) was now open to selling the majority of his shares, after initially favouring the sale of a minority stake.

"As indicated in recent months, discussions are underway with a number of potential investors regarding the proposed sale of a stake in the club, with the aim of providing new resources to pursue the Girondins turnaround project. As part of these discussions, the possibility of selling a 60% stake in the club's capital has been raised, with Gérard Lopez remaining a 40% shareholder and manager of the club, although this scenario has not been favoured," said FCGB, adding that an offer to purchase 100% of the club's capital was rejected in the summer of 2023.
