Cricket: Tata Communications extends as Indian Premier League title sponsor for a record €55.8m/year

Tata Communications, a subsidiary of the Indian industrial group Tata, has extended its title sponsorship of the Tata Indian Premier League for a further five seasons (2024-2028), announced the BBCI, India's cricket governing body, on 20/01/2024. The Mumbai-based group was awarded the contract following a call for tenders issued by the BBCI on 12/12/2023, to which only Tata Communications and the Indian conglomerate Aditya Birla Group responded, according to Indian media.

Tata Communications will pay a total of 25 billion Indian rupees (€276.3m), or 5 billion Indian rupees (€55.86 million) per season. This is a new record for title sponsorship in the Indian Championship. It represents a 13.6% increase on the previous record set by the IPL's current naming partnership with Vivo (CHN, smartphones) for the 2018, 2019 and 2021 seasons (also title sponsor in 2016 and 2017 for a lower amount).
