LFP: VAR maintained in the Ligue 1 Uber Eats and extended to Ligue 2 BKT from 2024-25

Video assistant referees (VAR) will not be abolished in the Ligue 1 Uber Eats, and will even be extended to the Ligue 2 BKT from the 2024-25 season, according to a decision taken by the board of directors of the Ligue de Football Professionnel at its meeting on 24/01/2024.

Didier Le Saint, president of Stade Brestois 29 (Ligue 1 Uber Eats), felt that he had been the victim of several unfavourable decisions relating to the use of VAR since the start of the season, and on 29/11/2023 he wrote to Vincent Labrune, president of the LFP, calling for VAR to be abolished. "The law is designed to evolve. I'm the first to want this change, but I'm far from the only one. Of course, there are those who say it and those who do not. I'm saying it," he said to L’Equipe the day before the meeting.
