SV Werder Bremen: a regional consortium acquires 18% of the club's shares for a €38m investment

A consortium of local "companies and private individuals" has acquired an 18% stake in the commercial structure of SV Werder Bremen (GmbH & Co KGaA) through an investment of €38m, announced the Bundesliga club on 25/01/2024.

The consortium, whose members "have long-standing ties to Werder", includes former player and now sporting director Frank Baumann, Harm Ohlmeyer (adidas CFO and spokesman for the consortium), as well as local entrepreneurs Arnd Brüning, Jens Christophers, Marco Fuchs, Martin Harren, Klaus Meier and Kurt Zech.

As part of this capital injection, the consortium will be allocated two seats on the supervisory board of Werder Bremen's commercial company, which will be increased from seven to nine members. These seats will be held by Jens Christophers and Arnd Brüning.

"The regional association's involvement has been laid out for the long term. Time and legal restrictions prohibit a possible resale of the shares," explained the German club.
