Super League: "The competition will be created in 2024-25 or 2025-26" (J. Laporta, FC Barcelona)

"The idea of its creation is to be able to compete against state backed clubs and look for sustainability in European Football. In the current European competition organisation everyone is getting rich and the clubs are being ruined. We are not getting any benefits with the current structure. There will be a Super League for next season or the 2025-26 season. If it not then, I will have a rethink," said Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona (LALIGA EA Sports) in an interview with the radio station RAC 1 on Friday 02/02/2024.

"I can see a first phase and then bringing in more team. I don't care if the English teams are not in it. Some clubs have shown interest I am thinking of FC Inter Milan, AC Milan, SSC Napoli, AS Roma (Serie A TIM), Barça, Real Madrid CF, Olympique de Marseille (Ligue 1 Uber Eats), the three Portuguese clubs which are Sporting Clube de Portugal, SL Benfica and FC Porto (Liga Portugal Betclic), AFC Ajax, Feyenoord Rotterdam, PSV Eindhoven (Eredivisie), Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht and Club Bruges KV (Jupiler Pro League)," said Laporta.
