United Kingdom: 46.7 million people watched more than a minute of women's sport on TV in 2023

46.7 million unique viewers watched at least one minute of women's sport on television in the UK in 2023, an increase of nearly one million on the previous record of 46 million in 2019, according to a study by the Women's Sport Trust published on 06/02/2024.

Among the main figures communicated by Women's Sport Trust:
• the average viewing time for women's sport on British television was 10 hours 7 minutes in 2023, compared with 8 hours 44 minutes in 2022 (+16%);
• 8% of television coverage was devoted to women's sport in 2023 (compared with 13% in 2022);
• The Barclays Women's Super League recorded a 268% increase in views on its TikTok account in 2023 (150 million views);
• 15.6 million people watched the Women's World Cup 2023 who had not previously watched women's sport (broadcast on BBC and ITV channels);
• 25.7 million live views were recorded on the BBC iPlayer platform during the Women's World Cup 2023 (+75% compared to the Women's World Cup 2019), as well as 15.6 million live views on the ITVX platform;
