Rugby/SARU: Ackerley Sports Group wishes to invest €69.8m in the creation of a commercial company

Ackerley Sports Group has entered into negotiations with the South African Rugby Union to invest in the creation of a commercial company (Commercial Rights Corporation) that will "hold all current and future revenue-generating assets of the Springboks and SARU," announced the Seattle (Washington, USA) based investment fund on 08/02/2024. According to local media, Ackerley Sports Group's investment is worth ZAR1.42bn (€69.8m).

This commercial company would be majority-owned by the Federation of the reigning men's rugby union world champions, with Ackerley Sports Group taking a "significant minority interest" estimated at around 20% according to local media.

"CRC's mission will be to grow the value of all SARU's commercial activities, including revenue generated from sponsorship, broadcasting, partnerships, content, marketing and match-day revenue. CRC's scope covers the national teams and SARU's partnership in international competitions and domestic rugby properties.
