FIFA: a record 4,716 international transfers during the 2024 winter transfer window & €1.35bn spent

Men's professional football clubs made a record 4,716 international transfers during the 2024 winter transfer window (data from 01 to 31/01/2024), up 0.6% on 2023 (4,387), according to the "International Transfer Snapshot" report on the latest transfer window published by FIFA on 13/02/2024.

Of the movements recorded, 3,964 (84%) involved free players. French clubs led the way in terms of spending, with a total of $291.9m (€270.7m) spent, "more than double the amount they spent in the previous January window." In terms of the number of transfers, Brazil topped the table, with 409 incoming and 249 outgoing players.

A total of $1.46bn (€1.35bn) was spent on transfer fees during the period, making it the second-biggest winter transfer market after 2023 ($1.57bn/€1.46bn).

In women's football, two records were also set:
• 357 international transfers were completed (+0.3% versus 2023), 42 of which resulted in a payment from the host club;
• total payments reached $2.1m (€1.94m), an increase of 165% compared to 2023.
