England: discussions on financial support from the Premier League to the EFL continue

"Productive discussions in relation to a number of matters" and "plans to move towards a new financial settlement with the EFL and to agree a long-term deal for the good of English football" were the objectives of a two-day meeting attended by the Premier League and its clubs on 08 and 09/02/2024.

"A desire to seek a resolution on remaining issues was reiterated in the meetings, including a commitment to a process and timeline," explained the Premier League.

"A number of Premier League clubs also held a productive meeting with EFL clubs this week to discuss these matters (07/02/2024). To build on this momentum, conversations between clubs from the two leagues will now continue over the coming weeks," added the English body.

"Funding of around £900m (€1.054bn as of 13/02/2024) has been agreed but issues over where the money should come from and stipulations around cost controls in the Sky Bet Championship have stalled completion of the deal, much to the frustration of EFL clubs," said the BBC on 09/02/2024.
