AFCON 2015: 66.9% of the participating players belong to clubs in the European championships

Players from clubs in European championships represent 66.9% of those who will compete in the 2015 edition of the AFCON (African Cup of Nations), in Equatorial Guinea from 17/01 to 08/02/2015 -- (or 246 players out of 368) -- indicated the ECA (European Club Association), on 15/01/2015.

71 players (19.3%) participating in AFCON 2015 play their club football in France, making it the country most affected by the competition, far ahead of Spain (26 players, 7%) and England (23 players 6.2%). Participants in AFCON who do not play in Europe are primarily connected ito African clubs (29.6%), followed by Asian clubs (2.7%) and North American clubs (0.8%). AFCON 2015 players come from 243 clubs in total, including 170 from Europeans clubs (70%).

  • Girondins de Bordeaux and Olympique Lyonnais (Ligue 1), wiht five players selected each, are the European clubs most affected by the competition.
  • The Tout Puissant Mazembe ((DRC) is, with 7 players, the club most affected by AFCON 2015.
