NBA All-Star Game 2024: the event returns to its original format after a decline in audience figures

The National Basketball Association is once again changing the format of the All-Star Game, the NBA's annual gala event and highlight of All-Star Weekend, the 2024 edition of which will be held in Indianapolis (Indiana, USA) from 16 to 18/02/2024.

The All-Star Game is thus returning to the format it used from its inception in 1951 until 2017, namely an Eastern Conference versus Western Conference showdown between the players most acclaimed by the public, their peers and NBA coaches.

Between 2018 and 2023, the NBA abandoned this East/West format. Instead, the league chose to stage an event ahead of the weekend of festivities: a selection of players, broadcast on American television, made by the two players with the most votes, who were then responsible for putting together their team from among the other players voted for, regardless of conference. In 2020, the American organisation also introduced a change to the rules by proposing an untimed fourth quarter in which the first team to reach a certain point total won the match.
