UEFA: 23% of the main shirt sponsors of top flight clubs are betting operators in 2023-24

23% of clubs in Europe's top leagues have a sports betting operator as their main shirt sponsor in 2023-24, according to UEFA in its annual report "The European Club Finance and Investment Landscape" published on 14/02/2024.

This figure represents an increase of 1% compared to the 2022-23 season, making bookmakers once again the most represented sector in this area. This share has increased for the second year running (+3% between 2020-21 and 2021-22) despite the implementation of restrictions on the display of betting companies in several European leagues. Bookmakers are also the most represented among the title sponsors of leagues in 2023-24 (see below).

The two other most represented sectors on the front of shirts are "retail and services", according to the report. In total, 93% of the 734 clubs surveyed have a main shirt sponsor (up 3% on 2021-22). In the European Top 5, only two clubs do not: SS Lazio (Serie A TIM) and Sevilla FC (LALIGA EA Sports).
