IOC: suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport

"The International Olympic Committee is pleased that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirmed the IOC executive board decision to suspend the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC)," declared the IOC on 23/02/2024 following the Swiss-based court's verdict of the same day. The decision "is final and binding except for the parties' right to file an appeal to the Swiss Federal Tribunal within 30 days," i.e. by 24/03/2024.

This decision follows an appeal lodged by the ROC on 06/11/2023 against its suspension, which was handed down by the IOC executive board on 12/10/2023. The CAS found that "the IOC executive board did not breach the principles of legality, equality, predictability or proportionality," in its action against the Russian body, which at the time denounced "yet another counterproductive and politically motivated decision."
