LALIGA: Real Madrid & Athletic Bilbao's lawsuit against the league's deal with CVC is rejected

"LALIGA has today learned of the ruling from the Court of First Instance No.15 dismissing the lawsuit filed by Athletic Club Bilbao and Real Madrid CF (LALIGA EA Sports) against LALIGA," announced the Spanish League on 27/02/2024.

Both clubs had taken legal action against LALIGA Impulso, the agreement between LALIGA and investment fund CVC Capital Partners announced in August 2021, in December of the same year. FC Barcelona also initiated the proceedings, before withdrawing from them in June 2023. "This is an illegal transaction which causes irreparable damage to the entire Spanish football industry and which flagrantly violates the most elementary principles of Spanish sports law and LaLiga's own statutes," said the three clubs, justifying their opposition to the project on 15/12/2021.
