Manchester United FC: creation of a task force dedicated to the regeneration of Old Trafford

Manchester United FC (Premier League) has created a "task force" in order to "to explore options for regenerating the Old Trafford area of Greater Manchester (ENG), with the development of a world-class football stadium at the heart of the project," announced the club on 08/03/2024.

This announcement comes three weeks after British businessman Jim Ratcliffe's (INEOS) acquisition of a 25% stake in the club was approved in a deal valued at $1.3bn (€1.18bn). The capital injection includes a $300m (€272m) fund earmarked for future investment at Old Trafford (74,879 capacity), of which $200m was paid on closing of the deal and a further $100m will be provided between now and the end of 2024.

The task force's objectives are to "assess the feasibility of a new stadium of national significance equipped to host international games and finals, as well as providing a modernised home for Manchester United" and to "support the 'levelling up' agenda to drive investment in the north of England," explained MUFC.
