AFC Ajax: Alex Kroes takes over as general manager

Alex Kroes, former director of international strategy at AZ Alkmaar (Eredivisie), took up his position as general manager and chairman of the board of AFC Ajax on 15/03/2024, announced the Amsterdam (NED) club on the same day.

He succeeds Jan van Halst, non-executive director and member of Ajax's supervisory board, who was appointed temporary director of general affairs on 04/09/2023. The Dutch club had announced its intention to make Alex Kroes its new general manager on 02/08/2023, before indicating the date of his arrival at the club on 05/09/2023.

Edwin Van der Sar, CEO of AFC Ajax since the end of 2016, had announced that he was stepping down from his position on 30/05/2023. The former international goalkeeper, born on 29/10/1970, subsequently suffered a brain haemorrhage on 07/07/2023.
