Germany: record revenues of €5.24bn for the 36 professional clubs in 2022-23

Germany's 36 professional clubs generated record revenues of €5.24bn in 2022-23, 9% more than in 2018-19, the previous season with the highest revenues (€4.8bn), according to the Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL) which published the 2024 edition of its annual report dedicated to the key economic indicators of the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga in respect of the 2022-23 season on 19/03/2024. The Bundesliga accounts for 85% of this sum, or €4.45bn.

Other key figures include:
• "Record revenues were accompanied by a return to profitability, with two-thirds of clubs (23 out of 36) reporting a positive balance sheet;
• A record €1.6bn in taxes was paid by the 36 clubs in 2022-23 to the various local authorities and the State;
• 55,001 people were employed directly or indirectly by first and second division clubs."
