Borussia Mönchengladbach: 17,164 tonnes of CO2 emitted in 2022-23 (Sustainability Report)

Borussia Mönchengladbach (Bundesliga) and its activities generated 17,164 tonnes of CO2 emissions in 2022-23, according to the Sustainability Report 2023 (see further reading section), which covers the 2022-23 season, published by the club on 20/03/2024.

The document, which is Borussia Mönchengladbach's second of its kind, is divided into four sections: management and organisation, environment, finance and social. The report comes in the wake of the Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL) imposing sustainability criteria on Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga clubs as part of its licensing process from the start of the 2023-24 season.

"There will always be room for improvement. That's why we'll never call ourselves a totally sustainable club or say we've achieved carbon neutrality. But we do want to help shape our society and our environment so that future generations can also live and grow up in good living conditions," said Markus Aretz, member of the board at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
