"At the end of the 2022-23 season, French professional football posted a loss of €282m, half the figure posted at the end of the 2021-22 season (€601m). Shareholders' equity continues to recover. It now stands at €1.2bn, compared with €814m in June 2022. And financial debt is continuing its slow decline to €952m from €1.05bn a year earlier," said Jean-Marc Mickeler, president of the DNCG, on the L'Équipe website on 27/03/2024.

"Ligue 1 lost €273m compared with €582m a year earlier. Ligue 2, meanwhile, lost €8.5m," added Mickeler.

"The operating accounts are still heavily in deficit at €1.06bn, even though this deficit has fallen by 12% in one year, thanks in particular to the stability of wages, which, excluding social security charges, amount to €1.6bn. The wage bill paid to players in Ligue 1 has even fallen by 2% in one year," said the DNCG president in an interview with L'Équipe, the main points of which have been reproduced below by News Tank Football.
