Liverpool FC: joint programme with Manchester United to fight against "tragedy chanting"

Liverpool FC and Manchester United FC (Premier League), via their foundations, have joined forces to launch an educational programme to raise awareness of "tradegy chanting" in football, announced the two clubs on 27/03/2024.

As part of the initiative, supported by the Premier League and the city councils of Liverpool and Manchester, the two clubs have brought together secondary school pupils from their respective cities to discuss "the huge impact the Hillsborough and Munich disasters had on the two clubs, their fans and the cities". Manchester United and Liverpool plan to hold a similar event every year to reach "tens of thousands of young people across the Merseyside and Greater Manchester regions."

The two clubs, who meet on Sunday 07/04/2024 (Matchday 32 of the Premier League), are regularly the target of chants mocking tragedies linked to their history:
• the Hillsborough disaster on 15/04/1989, which claimed the lives of 97 spectators after a crowd surge during a match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield (England);
