NHL: Golden Knights-Colorado Avalanche to be shown using real-time animated characters on 14/04/2024

Golden Knights - Colorado Avalanche, a 2023-24 NHL regular season game, will be broadcast live in animation with characters from the "MultiVersus" video game on the truTV pay-TV channel and Max streaming platform (owned by Warner Bros. Discovery) in the United States on Sunday 14/04/2024 (start time 15:30 ET), announced the North American Ice Hockey League on 03/04/2024.

The broadcast of the match will include live, real-time animation of the players from both teams, modelled on the characters from the video game, including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Bugs Bunny. The broadcast will use positioning data provided by the NHL Edge innovation centre to recreate the action. The match will also be broadcast traditionally on the pay-TV channel TNT and on Max.

This initiative was carried out in collaboration with NHL Edge as well as the UK company Hawk-Eye (realistic movements of characters and player avatars) and the AI-based data analysis and visualisation company Beyond Sports (real-time animation).
