Premier League: Everton FC receive a new 2-point deduction for violating financial regulations

Everton FC has been deducted two points in the 2023-24 Premier League table with immediate effect for breaching the League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules, announced the English league on 08/04/2024.

The penalty was imposed by an independent commission of the English League, which interviewed the Merseyside (ENG) club in March 2024. The Premier League, noting that Everton had breached Article E.49 of its regulations at the end of the 2022-23 season, which limits clubs' financial losses over a period of three financial years to £105m (€119.3m), had announced the launch of proceedings on 15/01/2024. Everton's accumulated losses over the period stood at £121.6m (€141m), according to the commission.

This is the second points withdrawal recorded by Everton in 2023-24. The club had already been sanctioned with a deduction of 6 points (reduced on appeal, after an initial 10-point deduction) on 26/02/2024, for breaching the same Premier League rules at the end of the 2021-22 financial year (cumulative losses of £124.5m/€144.8m for the period running to the end of the 2021-22 season)…
