United Kingdom: Premier Sports active again since 09/04 after acquisition of Viaplay's activities

Premier Sports has been active again in the UK and Ireland since 09/04/2024, after the Swedish audiovisual group Viaplay completed the sale of its activities in these territories to the British pay and free-TV group on 04/04/2024.

This marks the start of "a new era" for Premier Sports, with a renewed identity and the return of its streaming platform and linear channels. "Premier Sports will be accepting new subscriptions soon. Existing Viaplay customers can continue to use the Viaplay service until 21/05/2024 and will be emailed shortly with details to access their new Premier Sports account," said the group on its platform.

Viaplay originally acquired Premier Sports in a deal valued at £30m (€35m) on 21/07/2022. The Swedish group thus recovered the media rights held by Premier Sports in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The pay-TV channels Premier Sports 1, Premier Sports 2 and the free-to-air channel FreeSports became Viaplay Sports 1, Viaplay Sports 2 and Viaplay Xtra respectively.
