2023-24 Bundesliga: Bayer 04 Leverkusen crowned German champions for the first time

Bayer 04 Leverkusen have been crowned 2023-24 Bundesliga champions after a 5-0 home win over SV Werder Bremen on Matchday 29 on 14/04/2024. They have 79 points in the table, 16 more than FC Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart, 2^nd and 3^rd respectively with 63 points each, who can no longer catch them between now and the end of the season (there are still five matchdays remaining).

This is the first ever league title for the club from Leverkusen, a town of 160,000 inhabitants in the North Rhine-Westphalia region, which until now had only won a UEFA Cup (formerly known as the Europa League) in 1988 and a DFB-Pokal in 1993.

Bayer Leverkusen ended FC Bayern Munich's record run of 11 consecutive titles, which saw them crowned German champions from 2012-13 to 2022-23, an unprecedented achievement in the European Top 5.

With 33 titles to their name, the Bavarian club remain the most successful German club, ahead of FC Nuremberg (9 titles) and Borussia Dortmund (8 titles).
