Paris 2024: Torch to be lit in Greece (16/04), crossing aboard the Belem, arrival in Marseille 08/05

The Paris 2024 COJOP, the City of Marseille, the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolitan Area, the Bouches-du-Rhône Department and the Southern Region have presented the arrangements for the arrival of the Olympic Torch in the Old Port of Marseille, scheduled for 08/05/2024.

This presentation, which follows the traditional Olympic Truce signing ceremony (organised on 15/04/2024), is being held on 16/04/2024, the day the Olympic Torch is lit by the sun's rays (using a parabolic mirror receptacle) on the archaeological site of the sanctuary of Olympia (Peloponnese) in Greece. In the presence of Thomas Bach (IOC), Tony Estanguet (COJOP Paris 2024) and Anne Hidalgo (Mayor of Paris), the "high priestess", played by Greek actress Mary Mina, will hold up the torch, which will then be carried by the very first torchbearer, Greece's Stéfanos Ntoúskos, Olympic rowing champion at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
