LALIGA: "LALIGA will play official matches abroad, potentially in 2025-26" (Javier Tebas)

"I think it could be in the 2025-26 season, but LALIGA will play official matches abroad," said Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish league to the Spanish business newspaper Expansion on 24/04/2024.

"An official game in the United States would strengthen our position in the North American market, which is the second (biggest) for LALIGA after Spain. Other really competitive leagues are coming, so we can't always do the same thing. They would jump ahead of us," added Tebas.

This is not the first time that the relocation of a LALIGA EA Sports match to the United States has been discussed. As part of an agreement with Relevent (an American company specialised in media, sport and entertainment) to create a joint venture to promote football in the United States and Canada, LALIGA announced on 16/08/2018 that it would hold a league match in the USA every season for the next 15 years.
