The American e-commerce group Amazon, owner of the Prime Video platform, is reportedly close to an agreement with the National Basketball Association to acquire the broadcasting rights to the NBA in the United States from 2025, according to American media outlet The Athletic on 26/04/2024.

The agreement would run for ten years and could include regular season and playoff games as well as conference finals. The NBA's domestic broadcasting rights are currently held by the American pay-TV groups ESPN (The Walt Disney Company) and TNT Sports (Warner Bros. Discovery) for the 2016-2025 cycle for a total of $24bn (€22.44bn), or $2.67bn (€2.5bn) per season.

ESPN is also said to be close to renewing its NBA domestic media rights from 2025, while TNT Sports is said to be competing with the US media and entertainment conglomerate NBCUniversal for the remaining rights, according to The Athletic. The deal with Amazon would therefore see the other two rights-holding broadcasters show fewer games than in the current cycle (reducing their offer from 100 games to 80).
