Formula 1: Viaplay extends broadcasting rights in 6 countries, including the Netherlands, until 2029

Viaplay has extended its full broadcasting rights to the Formula 1 World Championship in six European countries for the 2025-2029 cycle (five seasons), announced the Swedish broadcasting group on 30/04/2024.

The agreement covers the Netherlands, Iceland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway. Viaplay holds the media rights to Formula 1 in Sweden, Norway and Denmark from the 2021 season, and in Finland, Iceland and the Netherlands from 2022.

"In the Netherlands and the Nordic region, viewing breaks records every year, driven by home heroes such as Max Verstappen (NED, Oracle Red Bull Racing), Finland's Valtteri Bottas (Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber) and Denmark's Kevin Magnussen (Haas F1 Team). Formula 1 now has around 5 million fans in the Netherlands, around 50% of whom began following in the past five years, and 4 million in the Nordics, with approximately 12 million Dutch TV viewers (up 35% from 2022) and 5.5 million Nordic viewers in 2023," explained Viaplay.
