NBA/United States: a $2.5bn offer from NBCUniversal for certain post-2025 media rights (press)

The American media conglomerate NBCUniversal has reportedly made a $2.5bn-a-year offer for selected domestic media rights to the National Basketball Association for the cycle beginning in 2025, according to the American daily The Wall Street Journal on 29/04/2024.

NBCUniversal could acquire the rights currently held by the pay-TV group TNT Sports (Warner Bros. Discovery), for which it pays $1.2bn per season (2.1 times less than NBC's offer). Together with the pay-TV group ESPN (The Walt Disney Company), TNT Sports holds the broadcasting rights to the NBA in the United States for the 2016-2025 period for a total of $24bn (€22.47bn), or $2.67bn (€2.5bn) per season.

ESPN is also said to be close to renewing its NBA domestic media rights from 2025, while the American e-commerce group Amazon (Prime Video) is reportedly close to an agreement with the NBA to acquire other rights, according to American media outlet The Athletic on 26/04/2024.
